An exploration of composition and storytelling is at the heart of my work. When choosing my subject matter, I'm drawn to contrasts, particularly the way light reacts against dark as well as the fine details within a larger plane. I know I've got something worth painting when the right composition makes a visual and emotional impact on me, leaving me with a desire to learn more. Sometimes the result is a universal message, sometimes it's a private conversation between myself and the work. Ultimately, my goal is that both myself and the viewer walk away from my art having made our own unique connections. Since 2001, I have been employed as the high school art teacher at Hammondsport CSD and spent several years illustrating children's books during this time as well. I began painting fine art in 2013 and have since won several notable awards. I am presently represented by West End Gallery in Corning and continue to thoroughly enjoy where this artistic journey takes me.
